In Style CopyCat

Hello!

why
I have had this page from InStyle hanging by my desk since . . . um . . . March, I think!  I really loved the utility jacket with the floral skirt. I swapped platforms for flats since I was going to be doing a lot of standing and walking. The necklace was something I adored one night in Greece, and Nate surprised me with it the next morning! I wanted something simple for a night of fun and games! I wore this to the Krochet Kids Skee Ball Tournament (where I beat my brother and Katie made it to final four!) at a dive-y bar in Ballard.

Hi Friends!

Today started with rain and ended sunny and warm! I did not wear this outfit today, but I am going to wear it for a special dinner this weekend. I might add some tights if it gets chilly again (no!!) . . .

This is a great example of High-Low. The skirt is Marc Jacobs(albeit thrifted), but the rest is no name and thrifted or from Old Navy. As much as I would love to wear coordinating designer pieces, it is fun and refreshing to see how uber pricey and uber cheap can mix comfortably.

How do you mix expensive and cheaper clothing?

Do you try on clothes days in advance for a special event? or is this just my OCD self?

More Black and Blue

Hi Friends!

Such a lovely weekend we have had here in Seattle! I love it when you remember why you live in your city or town. I love how the nice weather makes all Seattle-ites come out to enjoy the sunshine! With that said, I did go see a movie yesterday. BUT I took the bus just so I could spend more time walking around in the sun! Today I have been gardening on out deck and spent a few hours wandering around the shops with Nate. So wonderful!

Yesterday, it was sunny, but still quite chilly, so I was not really feeling the bright spring colors that are in every window. I feel like black is a good basic when you are between seasons. I know we are not technically between seasons, but it still feels that way to me!

as springy as it gets

Hi there!

So today I became enraged! I looked at the average temperature (I will never do this again), and it told me that we are usually 10 degrees warmer than we were today! Why?!! I know there is some answer about a cold front from Canada or something, blah, blah, blah . . . Each morning I stare longingly at the lovely floral skirts and sandals still tucked in my closet. Today I considered boots and winter coat, but I chose to wear bare legs and deal with the wintery mix and hail we experienced on the playground.

On a positive note, I did have an excuse to visit Bella Umbrella and buy a new umbrella! There is always a silver lining!

I bought these shoes on clearance at DSW this weekend. I love their shining wingtips and the fact that they don't have laces.

"Oh I wish I was sailing again . . ."

Hello Friends!

Pardon the Jimmy Buffett reference, but I really do wish I was sailing. The boats were racing this afternoon on the lake. Nate and I looked at each other with that won't it be nice when look in our eyes. Hence, the sailboat skirt!

This outfit is pretty preppy, but it also feels a bit retro. I think the combination of a big skirt, button up, and keds is making we want to take a trip to the five and dime and then stop by the diner for a milkshake.

It being such a sunny, warm day I couldn't resist lying on the grass and watching the clouds. I stayed there many minutes after the timer went off.

Skirt: TJMaxx (? but couldn't have been more than $15)

What to do with this scarf?

Hi Friends!

What a beautiful day we had today! Sunny, warm, kids could play outside, so no crazy behavior!
I had on a sweater, and this scarf looked super cute with it. Then the thermometer crept up, the sweater got stuffed in my purse, and the scarf looked lame. I still couldn't resist putting it in these photos. It is so pretty and perfectly spring-y. I realized, with the exception of the necklace and scarf, everything is thrifted. I think this outfit cost Shoes (5.99) + Top (3.99) + Skirt (5.99) + sales tax = approx 18.00! Wow I should calculate my outfit totals more often! The lining of this skirt shows a bit, but it is dark, and I kind of like it.

Feeling Springy!

Hello Friends!

I took a little trip downstairs to the storage room last week and pulled a few pieces that could make these last days a little more . . . springy if you will! My husband made me limit myself to five. Reasonable considering my closestS are already overflowing! Anyways . . . I love this skirt; it's so full with pockets too! It's too light weight to wear through the winter, but I'm wearing it now! I made the belt a few weeks ago with Midori ribbon from Ester's Fabric Store on Bainbridge Island. A simple sweater and embellished button up seem fitting for this girly look.

As for the 4th day of my "hair wear challenge," I went with curls, curls, curls! I never use rollers, but I busted them out for today. the result took little hands on time, but of course the rollers have to set. The look is decidedly Dolly Parton-esque, and I am not sure it is really my style. The headband is my style and was a gift form Janet and Lori, love it too! This outfit was a happy way to end the week!

Sunshine Makes Me Feel Fine!

Hello Friends!

Today was delightfully sunny and a bit warm in Seattle! I could feel spring just waiting to burst on the scene! Since winter is coming to a close, I did wear another favorite winter piece, a JCrew wool skirt. It's just the right length for me, and can be part so many different ensembles. The belt is a ribbon by Laura Foster Nicholson that I stitched onto a D-ring. My necklace was a gift from me father. It is a cedar bow dipped in gold. It is very fragile, so I do not wear it much. I do love it, though. Simple sweater, comfy t-shirt, and oxfords pulled it all together. Oh! The tights I am wearing are nude, but have a nifty pattern that keeps them from being too plain Jane. I think tomorrow is a jeans day, but we will see!*

Also, I am intrigued by Elle's January "21 Days, 21 Hair Styles" article. I think that might be a fun challenge . . . more on that later!
