Hello Friends!
Welcome to the first installment of a "yet to be titled segment" about those who are using fashion to better our little planet! I will start this weekly project close to home and heart, a non profit started by my brothers and some of their friends. Krochet Kids is a non-profit organization that started with some college boys day dreaming about giving those in need a better life. They have taught women in war ravaged Northern Uganda to crochet beanies which they sell in the United States.
Each day, a group of women in Northern Uganda gather in a simple brick hut to begin work. Their tools are small, just a hook and some yarn, yet the end product is something much more meaningful than a style accessory. The crocheted products these women are making have a far reaching impact. They provide immediate stability for their families, share about the realities of poverty, and their sale promotes the development of their community.
Currently, there are ten Ugandan women who are crocheting hats and enjoying a newfound livelihood. This new opportunity is supplemented with other educational training to help them sustain and provide for their families both now and in the years to come.*
This quick video lets you meet the guys (Adam and Stephen are my brothers) and some of the ladies these beanies support!
The hats are affordable, wearable, and practical! If you are going to buy a hat, why not one that will help a displaced women provide for her family! They have a kids line too!
I'd love feedback on this new segment, so please comment!
Thanks friends!
